Everyday Miracles

Quantum physicists tell us that the world holds together by an inexplicable mystery. Theologians identify that mystery as God who "upholds all things by the word of His power," but they likewise bow before the inexplicability of the mystery.

As a strict cessasionist I deny the occurrence of special miracles in this age, "special miracles" including those "miracles, wonders, and signs" that characterized the prophetic, Messianic, and apostolic advents. Those were miracles of authentication; anyone who claims the perpetuity of such miracles must also claim that s/he is authentically prophetic, Messianic, or apostolic. Some fools make the first claim but remain somehow oblivious to the tangential necessity of the second claim, that they must identify themselves as infallible prophets, apostles, or messiahs.

I prefer the quantum physicist to the quacky continuationist. When the latter walks into St. Jude's and raises one precious child with terminal cancer from his deathbed, then he will have my attention. Until then . . .

Everything is a miracle.

Everything, every day, everywhere, for everyone; everything is a miracle.

On a few occasions I have been stunned by the beauty of just being here. It is really a cumulative effect. It makes me thank God for every moment, ask forgiveness for those I devalued and consider the magical and majestic hidden in the mundane.
